According to data released by the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies, France’s gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.2% in the first quarter of 2023, after remaining stable in the fourth quarter of the previous year. This growth was mainly attributed to a rebound in household consumption, which had experienced a 1% decline in the previous quarter and remained steady in the first quarter.
Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, experienced a significant drop of 20% in its stock value during after-hours trading following the announcement of its underwhelming quarterly results for the first quarter of this year. The company reported earnings per share of 1 cent, which was unexpected given the projected loss of $1 cent per share. Furthermore, the quarterly revenue amounted to approximately $989 million, falling short of the anticipated $1.01 billion.
Intel also announced its quarterly results for the first quarter, which revealed a 133% decline in earnings per share year-on-year, as well as a 36% decline in revenue year-on-year to $11.7 billion.
Following the release of US growth and unemployment benefit data and unemployment claims, the US dollar experienced a significant surge in trading on Thursday. Today, the US dollar index showed a 0.26% increase, settling close to the 101.50 points level.

Oil prices remained largely unchanged on Friday, April 28th, but are set to register a second consecutive week of decline. Brent crude futures saw an uptick of 16 cents or 0.2% to reach $78.53 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude rose by 23 cents or 0.3% to hit $74.99 per barrel.
